For over 40 years as an employment lawyer in Scotland I have learned that the formal dispute resolution procedures very often lead to more problems than they solve. For nearly 20 years I've been mediating disputes and working to help parties find ways to resolve their conflicts by talking and, more importantly, listening to each other. I look forward to hearing about your issues and hope that I can help find a resolution to them.

1990-2023
Partner, Anderson Strathern, LLP
In this position, I built the Employment Unit of Scotland's oldest independent law firm. I retired as a Partner in 2023 but continue to provide resolution services as a Consultant..
2018 - 2024
Chair, Scottish Mediation
Having previously served on the board of Scotland's Mediation organisation I held the the position of Chair from 2018 until 2024. I helped deliver important initiatives such as the Peer Mediation Project introducing mediation skills to Scotland's young people. I continue to be part of the team delivering this important work.
2022
Team Member, Keeping Our Cool

Centre for Good Relations
I was part of the team of mediators working on the streets of Glasgow during the COP26 International Conference. We worked in the space between protesters such as Extinction Rebellion and the police forces working under the direction of Police Scotland. A fabulous experience that demonstrated the value of mediation in allowing protesters to make their point in a way that managed issues of safety and public concern.
I continue to be part of the team of mediators working around protests and demonstrations as an Associate Practitioner with the Centre for Good Relations
